DITA Eyewear – Innovation and Style

DITA Eyewear: A Tale of Surfers & Sunglasses

We’re always on the lookout for the freshest and most inspiring eyewear for you, and one of our favourite designers is none other than DITA Eyewear.

This American luxury eyewear brand is relatively young, having been founded in 1995 by Californian childhood best friends, Jeff Solorio and John Juniper, after they were overwhelmingly uninspired by the lack of high quality sunglasses from prominent designers and fashion powerhouses. As part of the Southern California surfing set, they believed eyewear to be the most outstanding and memorable of all fashion accessories, and we completely agree!

With this vision in mind and taking inspiration from the 50s through to the 80s, DITA – the alternative to label branded eyewear, was born in Los Angeles, California with the ambition of creating innovative, quality eyewear that revolved around their core principles of style, quality fit and feel.

Their original lines consisted of DITA sunglasses, however, the real turning point was the introduction of their optical frame collection in 2007, which enabled them to become a fully acknowledged global brand.

Now, they are one of the biggest and most influential eyewear designers in the world, and have redefined luxury eyewear by combining vintage looks with contemporary fitting to create special and unique frames.

DITA- Quality in Craftmanship

DITA eyewear is crafted in the oldest, highest quality factories in Japan– the gold standard location of eyewear manufacturing. With the last remaining Master Craftsmen in the eyewear industry making these frames with 50 years of experience and dedication to perfecting their crafts, you can understand why one pair of DITA glasses can take anywhere from 8 months to 1 year to make.

In fact, when you take a closer look, it takes 250 craftsmen, 7 factories and 8 months to 1 year of individual steps to create 1 DITA frame!

One aspect that sets DITA Eyewear apart from the rest, is the quality of the materials used to produce their handcrafted frames. Ultra-thin, lightweight, Japanese ‘zyl’ acetate is used, as it is considered to be the best in the world and has to be finished by hand. It is plant-derived, giving it a less plastic-looking appearance and a more natural feel instead.

They also opt to use luxurious metals, including titanium, stainless steel metal core lamination techniques and 18k gold, as well as exclusive hardware, polished to a brilliant finish. Even their signature custom-made ‘hex’ rivets which are used instead of traditional screws are individually set into the temples.

The meticulous attention to detail for all of these individual components in the manufacturing process is unmatched, resulting in  strong, reliable and sustainable sunglasses and optical frames, as well as a daring and unconventional artistic statement.

Although they have now achieved massive global success, with A-listers and elite fashionistas all opting to wear these magnificent frames, DITA still keep things humble with intentionally subtle logo details on their glasses – letting the craftsmanship and appearance of the frame itself define their luxury brand.

DITA Eyewear & Lenses

So, aside from possessing design eyewear excellence, do DITA sunglasses and glasses perform well optically?

As a result of the durability of the materials used during manufacturing, as well as the strong and unique ‘hex’ screws,  DITA eyewear has been designed to work well with even the strongest lenses.

Even if you have a high prescription and usually struggle to find frames that accommodate your lens choice, , DITA glasses will deliver, as they are designed to hold  considerably thicker lenses than the norm with ease.
