From Suits to Sunglasses: Thom Browne

“As a designer, I’m supposed to be provoking people’s reactions, and getting people to see things differently.”

– Thom Browne

Fresh from New York, Thom Browne eyewear has hit the world stage with a wave of unabashed nostalgia.  Paying homage to classic aviators, wayfarers and vintage round shapes, the world-renowned tailor stands by a commitment to setting off timeless styles with pioneering modern detailing.

It’s this unique sensibility that first captured Hodd Barnes and Dickins’ attention, though it seems we’re not the only eyewear connoisseurs to have had our heads turned.  Over the past decade Thom Browne UK has also garnered numerous accolades including GQ Magazine’s Designer of the Year, Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Menswear Designer of the Year, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, all of which have cemented the designer’s position as one of the most influential menswear designers of our time.

The Thom Browne story began in 2001, when the eponymous designer established his by-appointment tailoring shop.  In 2003 he launched his first ready-to-wear collection, and today his iconic handmade suits are worn by discerning influencers around the globe from London to Tokyo, Seoul to Paris, Hong Kong to New York.  Such is his impact on the fashion world, that his designs have since found their way into museum collections including at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Bath Fashion Museum and the Metropolitan Museum.

It was only in 2011 that the renowned designer partnered with eyewear brand Dita to release a collection of retro Thom Browne sunglasses inspired by cultural icons of the1940s, 50s and 60s.  Eyewear has since become a mainstay of his annual collection.

Thom Browne eyewear is infused with all the innovation and attention to detail of his iconic clothing range.  Renowned for crafting luxury garments and accessories with a heritage twist, Thom Browne eyewear and Thom Browne sunglasses are designed with the individual wearer front of mind.  Eye catching modern features set off classic shapes, with unusual detailing including meshed side panels, reflective lenses and precious metal detailing.

We’re also great admirers of Thom Browne UK’s absolute commitment to crafting the highest quality frames, engineered to last a lifetime.  Each pair is handmade in Japan with time-cured acetate and titanium and marked with the signature red, white and blue logo and four-stripe hinge, whilst every detail is meticulously forged in opulent gold and silver.

The latest collection of frames boasts all the signature detailing we’ve come to expect from the New York brand.  To give you a taste, here are a few of our team’s favourite pairs…
